1. Summary
Amnesia Haze became the signature Amsterdam coffeeshop sativa of the 2000s. Barney's won the overall 2004 (17th) Cannabis Cup with it, and Soma's Sacred Seeds won the 2012 Sativa Cup.1 Its origin is disputed between three accounts:
- Soma Seeds, c.2003: Southeast Asian (Laotian) × Jamaican × Afghani-Hawaiian; earlier versions used Thai.23
- Hy-Pro/Zwiep's "Amnesia": Neville's Haze × an Afghan of his own ("Enemy of the State"), popular from c.1996 and first sold as a clone.24
- A US 1990s "Amnesia" carried to Holland by Sam the Skunkman and crossed with Haze: this is folklore; no statement from Sam was found.45
Soft Secrets also reports that a lot of coffeeshop "Amnesia Haze" sold c.2006–2012 was actually a Super Silver Haze clone.2
2. Identity
- Aliases: Amnesia; Hy-Pro Amnesia (a distinct line).
- Type: sativa (Soma line described as 70% sativa).2
- Breeder: disputed (see §3).
- Era: c.1996–2003 origin; 2004 Cup win.
3. Genetics & lineage claims
3a. Soma: Laotian × Jamaican × Afghani-Hawaiian (earlier Thai)
3b. Hy-Pro/Zwiep: Neville's Haze × Afghan
3c. Sam-carried US "Amnesia" × Haze
In one version the US Amnesia is Thai/Jamaican/Hawaiian × Afghan. In another it is Bubblegum × Super Silver Haze.4
4. Timeline
- c.1996 — Hy-Pro Amnesia popular in Dutch competitions.2
- c.2003 — Soma's Amnesia Haze released.2
- 2004 — Overall Cup winner (Barney's).1
- 2006–2012 — An SSH clone is widely sold as "Amnesia Haze".2
- 2012 — Sativa Cup winner (Soma's Sacred Seeds).1
5. Notable cuts / phenotypes / remakes
- Hy-Pro Amnesia: often indica-looking, with a sativa effect.2
- Related lines: G13 Haze, Amazing Haze, Amnesia 99.2
6. Historical descriptions by era
- 2014: 10–13 weeks indoors; November outdoors.2
- 2010s–2020s: Leafly users describe a euphoric, energetic, productive cerebral buzz with sour lemon, pine and earth notes, plus occasional racing-mind effects.6
7. Cannabinoid & terpene profile
| Label | Measure | n | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| "Amnesia Haze" (Smith 2022) | THC mean 18.0% (median 18.4); terpenes myrcene 0.33, caryophyllene 0.29, limonene 0.24, terpinolene 0.24; dominant myrcene 17, terpinolene 10, limonene 9 (of 43) | 67 | Smith 2022 data |
| "Amnesia Haze" (WA) | THC mean 22.2% | 172 | WA I-502 |
| bare "Amnesia" (not merged) | Smith n=128, terpinolene-dominant 35/55; WA n=182, THC 20.0% | — | computed file, key x-amnesia |
The dominant terpene is mixed, which fits the reported confusion over what is actually being sold. Strain names are not reliable chemotype identifiers.
8. Community sentiment
Sample: Leafly has roughly 1,300 reviews (163+ review pages); only search snippets were read, and the aggregate rating was not visible.6 Reddit was not sampled.
- Euphoric, energetic, cerebral: common, positive.
- Citrus/earthy/pine flavour: common, positive.
- Racing mind, paranoia, perceptual effects: occasional, negative.
- Authenticity concerns (coffeeshop substitutes): occasional, negative.2
Paraphrases from Leafly reviewers: one found it "very euphoric" and good for getting work done; another said a strong batch made them see double at dinner.6
Era shift: Dutch clone/seed origins (1996–2003), then the Amsterdam icon and Cup winner (2004–2012), then a generic retail label.
Overall score: 82/100 (low-confidence estimate).
