1. Summary
Ghost OG is an OG Kush clone named after a grower nicknamed "Ghost" ("Ghost1"). The best-supported account comes from the forum and seed-catalog history of the early 2000s. OrgnKid, who reportedly paid $5,000 plus five pounds for an OG Kush clone from the Josh D circle, sold a cut to Ghost for about $1,000, and growers began calling that cut "Ghost OG".12 Josh D's brand gives a different account. It describes Ghost OG as Josh D's own original cut, grown for about two decades in the Pacific Northwest by his friend Ghost and later returned, "expressing somewhat differently".3 High Times (2013) instead suggests it "may have originated in Oregon circa 2003" as an S1 OG phenotype that closely resembles the SFV OG cut.4 So that the cut descends from the Josh D OG is well-supported, but the route it took is disputed, and the "S1" claim conflicts with the clone story. Ghost OG became a key mother for Rare Dankness (Ghost Train Haze #1 = Original Ghost OG Γ Nevil's Wreck; Rug Burn OG; Drama). Its mother is said to have come from "Weedzilla of the Devils Harvest Krew".56 In Washington lab data it averaged over 28% THC, versus 19.4% for "OG Kush", despite being nominally the same clone.7

3. Genetics & lineage claims
3a. OrgnKid's OG Kush cut sold to "Ghost1"
Confidence: well-supported (a seed-catalog history plus a 2010 forum catalogue, both secondhand). Greenpoint Seeds' text (Seedfinder) says OrgnKid sold a clone "for $1,000" to a gardener nicknamed Ghost1, and growers then called OrgnKid's cut "Ghost OG".1 THCFarmer (2010): OrgnKid sold a cut to Overgrow member "Ghost".2
3b. Josh D's own cut, kept about 20 years in the Pacific Northwest by his friend Ghost
Confidence: reported (a brand statement from 2019, opened by the OG Kush agent; marketing context).3 Competes with 3a on the route, but agrees that it is the Josh D OG.
3c. An S1 OG phenotype from Oregon, about 2003
Confidence: reported (High Times 2013, unsourced).4 Competes with 3a/3b (clone vs S1 seed).
3d. Rare Dankness's Ghost OG came from "Weedzilla of the Devils Harvest Krew"
Confidence: reported (a dispensary menu quoting Rare Dankness's Scott "Moonshine" Reach).6
3e. Genetically the same as the Josh D OG and Tahoe
Confidence: reported (forum belief, ICMag 2025; no Ghost-specific genotype seen).9
4. Notable crosses (breeder catalogs, via resellers)
- Rare Dankness: Ghost Train Haze #1 = Original Ghost OG Γ Nevil's Wreck; Rug Burn OG = Ghost OG Γ Rare Dankness #1 (RD#1 = a male from multiple backcrosses of Ghost OG and Triangle Kush "with a hint of Chem D"); Drama = Triangle Kush Γ Ghost OG (reversed); Ghost of LeeRoy = Ghost OG Γ Lee Roy.54
- Dr Greenthumb: Bubba OG = Pre-98 Bubba Kush Γ Ghost OG (2011).10
- Crockett's Private Reserve = "a seven-year Ghost OG" Γ Skunk Haze (HT 2013).11
- Freeborn Ghost OG Γ Sky Jaro; Bomb Seeds Ghost Train Bomb; DNA "Patrick Swayze Auto" (Ghost OG Γ MAC Auto).12
5. Timeline
- c. 2000β2002 β OrgnKid sells the cut to Ghost.12
- c. 2003 β Ghost OG appears in Oregon (HT 2013).4
- 2011 β Dr Greenthumb releases Bubba OG (Pre-98 Γ Ghost OG). A breeder interviewed in High Times (Aug 2011; breeder name not captured in OCR excerpt) lists Ghost OG among his breeding females.1013
- 2013-06 β Denver Cannabis Cup: Medical Hybrid 3rd, Ghost OG Kush (The Clinic Colorado).14
- 2013 β Rug Burn OG (Ghost OG Γ RD#1) appears in HT Strongest Strains; Rare Dankness's Ghost Train Haze had topped the first list.4
- 2019 β Josh D brand page on Ghost OG.3
- 2020 β Leafly/Rahn: WA Ghost OG averages >28% THC.7
6. Historical descriptions
Ghost OG is described as citrus-pine-fuel OG with a heavy body high (secondary); "considered by many to best represent OG Kush" (Greenpoint text).1 Josh D says the Ghost expresses "somewhat differently" from his cut.3
7. Cannabinoid & terpene profile
Caveat: strain names are not reliable chemotype identifiers.
| Dataset | Name | THC avg | n | Terpenes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Smith 202215 | Ghost OG / Ghost OG Kush | 19.0% | 109 | myrcene 0.71, limonene 0.57, caryophyllene 0.39, linalool 0.16 (n=104; total 2.49) |
| WA I-50216 | Ghost OG names | see fragment | 94 | β |
| Leafly/Rahn (WA I-502)7 | Ghost OG | >28% | not stated | β |
| Current records8 | "Ghost OG" | 20.1% | 414 | caryophyllene 0.38, limonene 0.37, myrcene 0.35 (n=25) |
| Dispensary menu, CO 201417 | Ghost OG | 26.47% | 1 | β |
The >28% WA figure is not reproduced in Smith 2022 or the current public records (about 19β20%), which suggests that one or a few producers drove it.
