    History & sources

    1. Summary

Chitral is a district of the Hindu Kush in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan (formerly the North-West Frontier Province). It has a long history of dry-sieved charas. A 2023 donor narrative in the USDA germplasm system says that before the 1970s large-scale commercial charas cultivation was widespread in Upper Chitral (Yarkhun and Laspur valleys). It adds that eradication campaigns have since reduced cultivation to small household plots.1 The best-documented commercial line is ACE Seeds' "Pakistan Chitral Kush" (PCK), which ACE says is "an excellent pure Kush collected in the mid 90's" and "100% landrace indica from Chitral". ACE gives 8–9 weeks flowering, 15–18% THC and an unusual geraniol/humulene-rich terpene profile.2 Secondary pages say ACE received PCK from Cannabiogen (Spain), which had worked it since the mid-1990s, and that ACE has worked it since 2007. A purple selection is dated to 2002 ("Old Purple PCK", Phylos listing title "Purple Pakistan Chitral Kush 2002").34 No source names the person who collected the seed in Chitral or the village. The PCK name also circulates as US dispensary clones and as Bodhi parents ("Purple Chitral Kush", "Purple Pakistani Chitral"). Their link to the ACE/Cannabiogen line is not documented.56 Wikipedia lists "Blackberry Kush aka Pakistani Chitral", an unsourced equivalence.7

    2. Identity

    • Names/aliases: Pakistani Chitral Kush, Pakistan Chitral Kush, PCK, Purple Pakistani Chitral, Purple Chitral (Kush), Chitrali; "Blackberry Kush" (Wikipedia, unsourced).257
    • Type as reported: indica ("100% indica", ACE).2
    • Region: Chitral District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan (Hindu Kush).12
    • Era: collected mid-1990s (ACE); purple selection 2002 (Phylos title); ACE release from 2007 (secondary).234
    • Propagation: seed (ACE regular); clone cuts in US dispensaries (2017 Reddit report).6

    3. Genetics & lineage claims

3a. ACE PCK is a pure Chitral landrace indica collected in the mid-1990s

Confidence: reported (breeder's own statement, but collector and locality unnamed; uncorroborated).2

3b. PCK was maintained/bred by Cannabiogen (Spain) from the mid-1990s and passed to ACE (worked since 2007); "Old Purple PCK" selected in 2002

Confidence: reported (Seedfinder/Phylos/retailer copies of ACE text; not on ACE's current page).34

3c. "Blackberry Kush" is the same as Pakistani Chitral

Confidence: folklore (Wikipedia list statement without citation).7

    4. Timeline

    • Pre-1970s β€” large-scale commercial charas cultivation in Upper Chitral (USDA donor narrative).1
    • Mid-1990s β€” PCK collected (ACE).2
    • 2002 β€” Purple PCK selection (Phylos variety title; secondary).4
    • 2007 β€” ACE begins working PCK (secondary copy of ACE text).3
    • 2014–2025 β€” PCK grows posted on r/microgrowery; PCK clones sold in US dispensaries (2017).6
    • 2019 / 2023 β€” "Chitrali #2" seed collected in Drosh, Chitral (2019) and donated to USDA NPGS (G 33697, received 2023-08-22).1

    6. Historical descriptions by era

    • USDA donor (2023): broad-leafleted, "classic Indica" morphology; some Chitral accessions exceed 2 m; poor germination of old seed.1
    • ACE (current): 8–9 weeks indoors, end of September outdoors; sweet, "round and penetrating" aromas (coffee, caramel, citrus, cherry, grape, berry gum); relaxing hash-plant effect of moderate potency.2
    • Growers (2017–2025): purple colouration admired (r/trees 2018–19); outdoor grows in Canada; ACE PCK used in crosses (e.g. Congolese Γ— PCK).6

    7. Cannabinoid & terpene profile

Caveat: names are not chemotype identifiers.

    • ACE (breeder lab claim): THC 15–18%, CBD 0.07%, CBG 0.16%; "very high geraniol", moderate terpinolene; "very high alpha humulene", moderate Ξ²-caryophyllene and nerolidol.2
    • WA I-502 2014–17: "Pakistani Chitral Kush" n=13 (1 lab, 2 producers); THC mean 20.4%.9
    • State records: "Chitral Kush" n=18 (MD, MI, 2017–2023), THC mean 18.0%.10
    • Smith 2022: no rows under these names.

    8. Community sentiment

    • Common: striking purple colour; dense, resinous "hash plant" buds; good parent for crosses.6
    • Rare/occasional: little effect-specific discussion found.
    • Score: not estimated.

    9. Open questions / could not verify

    • Who collected the mid-1990s PCK seed and where in Chitral? Cannabiogen's own account was not found.
    • How US dispensary "PCK" clones and Bodhi's Purple Chitral relate to the ACE/Cannabiogen line.
    • Basis of the Wikipedia "Blackberry Kush = Pakistani Chitral" equivalence.
