1. Summary

SFV OG is a Los Angeles OG Kush clone named for the San Fernando Valley. It became famous on the THCFarmer forum around 2008–2010 through Swerve of The Cali Connection, who also turned it into seed lines. "SFV OG Kush" is the clone × Afghani #1 F-line; "SFV OG IBL" is the male behind his Tahoe, Larry and Dead Head OG seeds.¹²³⁴ Where the clone came from is disputed:

• Cali Connection says it was "originally from Tahoe coming to the SFV from the OC".⁵
• A THCFarmer "Putz" text says it came from seed sales by "Mike (Mad Dog)" of Downey. This belongs to the folkloric Chemdawg × Lemon Thai × Paki story.⁶
• An unnamed SFV grower (Mr. Nice Guy LLC, Santa Barbara) said on a Future Cannabis Project clip that SFV OG's original name was "PK, the Pure Kush". He said it came in through Point Mugu Naval Air Station "in a backpack" from Navy SEALs in Afghanistan, and that he has kept it continuously for 27 years.⁷

High Times in 2011 called the SFV Kush "the first and most original of the OG lines".⁸ Its relationship to the Josh D OG is unknown: no genotype comparison was found. Phylos reported several LA "OG" cuts identical to the Josh D cut but did not name SFV in the material seen.⁹ The 2012 placings are well documented in High Times: SFV OG won Best Indica at the Denver Medical Cup, and the SFV OG Kush seed line took 3rd Seed-Company Indica at the 25th Amsterdam Cup.¹⁰¹¹

3. Genetics & lineage claims

3a. An OG Kush cut that travelled Tahoe → Orange County → SFV (Cali Connection)

Confidence: reported (the breeder's statement about a clone he did not originate). Cannigma quotes Cali Connection: "Hailing originally from Tahoe coming to the SFV from the OC and worked into the SFV and introduced to the world by Swerve."⁵ The OG Kush dossier's THCFarmer source (2010) says the forum/dispensary SFV cut came from Swerve.⁶

3b. SFV cut from Mike "Mad Dog" (Downey) seed sales — "Putz" story

Confidence: folklore. It is part of the Chemdawg × (Lemon Thai × Old World Paki Kush) text posted to THCFarmer in 2010. That text says Mad Dog's seed sales produced the SFV cut and that his cut to Orange County became "Larry".⁶ See og-kush §3c. High Times (2015) repeats part of this for Larry: "the original SoCal (Orange County), which was bred from the Chem D and a hybrid of Lemon Thai × Hindu Kush × Pakistani".¹³

3c. "PK / Pure Kush", brought from Afghanistan via Point Mugu NAS

Confidence: reported (a single unnamed grower; no corroboration). The grower says he has grown in the SFV since 1986. He describes the plant as hard to grow, "like an ivy plant", stretching 2–3 ft in the first 11–14 days of flower, with gappy bud spacing.⁷ Note that High Times (2011) lists "Pure Kush" and "SFV OG Kush" as separate entries in a DHK crew strain list, which tells against the identity claim.¹⁴

3d. Relationship to Ghost OG and the Josh D OG

Confidence: reported. High Times (2013) says Ghost OG "may have originated in Oregon circa 2003, but bears striking resemblance to the SFV OG cut that appeared around that same time".¹⁵ A Breeders Syndicate guest saw a Chem 91 "almost identical to my SFV OG clone".¹⁶

• SFV OG Kush (Cali Connection) — Swerve received "afghani#1 pollen" from "capt" and "hit my sfv ogk clone", then took it F1 → F2 (about 150 grown) → F3 (about 200) → F4 with a selected stud male.² High Times (2015): "an SFV OG clone with an Afghani father … over several generations".¹² Leafly/Weedmaps say the Afghani was from Homegrown Fantaseeds (secondary; unverified).¹⁷ Confidence: verified (as the breeder's account).
• SFV OG IBL / F3–F4 males — used for Tahoe OG (Tahoe clone × SFV OG Kush F3), Larry OG (Larry clone × SFV OG Kush F3), Dead Head OG (Chemdog 91 × SFV OG Kush F4) and Sour OG / 818 Headband (SFV OG IBL × Sour Diesel).¹⁴¹⁸¹⁹
